On June 18, 2014, Nina Berman gave a talk at the University of Leeds, entitled “The Cool Empire: German Turcomania in the 17th and 18th centuries.” The lecture was followed by comments from Dr. James Hodkinson, University of Warwick, and Dr. Frauke Matthes, University of Edinburgh.

 

Later that same month, Dr. Berman taught a seminar at the Department of Arabic Studies / Islamic Studies at the Georg-August-Universität, Göttingen, on “Kulturkontakte und Herrschaft im 10. Jahrhundert: Ibn Fadlans Bericht über seine Reise von Bagdad an die Wolga.“
