Bethany E. McLean Davey is a PhD student and University Fellow in the Department of Comparative Studies at The Ohio State University. Bethany received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana and a Master of Divinity with a focus on Social Justice Advocacy from Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey. Her work and research focus on race, gender and religion, at the intersections of U.S. Protestant Christian sexual purity cultures, Whiteness, (im)migration and state-making. Committed to decolonial, Latinx/e and feminist theories and praxes, Bethany pursues the embodiment of her academic work through improvisation and stand-up comedy, confident that these expressive performance arts offer healing possibilities for religious and racial traumas.
