Karatzas holds a PhD in Modern History from the University of Zaragoza in Spain, for which he received the first-ever scholarship for doctoral studies in American History by the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). He is currently a Research Fellow at the London Centre for Interdisciplinary Research and at the Institute of International Economic Relations. A specialist in African-American history and political and racial violence, he is the author of Violence and Memory in the United States: The Case of the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot (forthcoming from Routledge-Taylor & Francis in 2019). His current book project with the University of Georgia Press is on the history of racial conflict in Florida.Organized by the Department of Comparative Studies.
