Sample M.A. Timelines

The following sample timelines are designed to suggest the range of subjects students might choose to investigate for the M.A. degree, and to show possible paths to the degree in terms of distribution of courses. They are just samples--students will work with their advisors to determine their own path through the program, choosing electives that support their goals and interests.

While the M.A. curriculum requires just 30 credit hours of coursework, M.A. students will typically earn approximately 36 credit hours or more, given the Graduate School's minimum enrollment requirements. Students appointed as Graduate Associates are required to enroll in a minimum of 8 credit hours per semester. Graduate students appointed as University Fellows are required to enroll in 12 credit hours in the Autumn and Spring semester of the fellowship, and 6 credit hours in the Summer term of the fellowship.
