2025-2026 Department of Comparative Studies Award Recipients

Department Chair Dr. Hugh Urban presents Shurouq Ibrahim with the Graduate Departmental Service Award, which was recently named in honor of our late Chair Dr. Philip A. Armstrong.

At this evening's annual awards ceremony -- in conjunction with the Humanities Institute's end-of-year celebration -- the following awards were presented:

  • Marge Lynd Award for best teaching by a Graduate Associate: Ciara Bernal
  • Marge Lynd Award for best teaching by a Lecturer: Alyssa Chrisman
  • Marge Lynd Award for best teaching by a Faculty member: John Brooks
  • Undergraduate Community Engagement Award: Drea Chalfan
  • Philip A. Armstrong Graduate Student Departmental Service Award: Shurouq Ibrahim
  • Marilyn Waldman Award: Kass Groner, in recognition of her excellent undergraduate essay, "1-800-Geld-that-Sh!t: Horse Breeding through a Feminist Lens"
    • Honorable mention: Wonjoo Lee, "Towards the Golden Era of KPop: KPop and Shamanism in KPop Demon Hunters"
    • Honorable mention: Sahre Shegne, "From Theology to Meme: The Digital Transformation of Yakub in Online Culture"
  • Richard Bjornson Award: Thorayah Abdelqader, in recognition of her excellent co-authored essay, “Flavors of adaptation: Columbus, Ohio, as a stage of interaction for Mediterranean and Mexican restauranteurs”
